Kumano Kodo is a pilgrimage route that is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It spans Wakayama, Mie, and Nara Prefectures and has been in use since ancient times. There are several routes registered as World Heritage sites, one of which is the “Nakahechi Route”, has a long history of use by pilgrims to the three Kumano Grand Shrines: Kumano Hongu Taisha, Kumano Hayatama Taisha, and Kumano Nachi Taisha.
