Experience a realistic dinosaur world

Located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is one of very few dinosaur museums in the world that delivers quality at a large scale. Fukui Prefecture is a well-known location for excavating dinosaur fossils, and this museum has been open since 2000, taking advantage of the area’s rich geological background.

Impressive robots and life-size skeletons

The biggest draw is of course the museum’s animatronic model of a tyrannosaurus rex (¾ scale), displayed side-by-side with a life-size dinosaur skeleton. You are sure to be awed by the power of the animatronic as it moves and roars.

Experience a simulation of fossil research

The museum offers a wide variety of videos and interactive exhibits that make use of the latest technology to ensure that children and adults alike can learn and have fun at the same time. A sample of what’s offered includes the theater which shows videos on dinosaur ecology and evolution, and numerous hands-on exhibits such as a corner where you can experience what it’s like to actually research a fossil.

Tour of an actual excavation site

Additionally, there is an “outdoor dinosaur museum” near the museum that holds tours of an actual excavation site. Here, you can watch excavation work first-hand while listening to explanations from experts, which is a valuable experience.

A spot packed full of learning and fun

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is the perfect spot for dinosaur fans as well as those with an interest in geology or natural history. There are often displays and special exhibitions held that feature the latest research results, so there are always new things to discover each time you visit.

A rewarding time spent learning and having fun

This is the perfect place for parents to visit with their children during the summer holidays and spend a rewarding time learning and having fun.
