Question

What's the difference between purchasing an exchange order/making a reservation online and purchasing a pass directly from a station?

Answer

Purchasing an exchange order overseas makes it possible to skip paying in Japanese yen when picking up your rail pass from designated station after arriving in Japan. Purchasing a pass from a station directly is an alternative / possible option if you were unable to purchase an exchange order overseas or if you plan to travel for a comparatively short time after arriving in Japan. Online reservations allow you to reserve desired tickets in advance and pay for them in Japanese yen at a JR-WEST ticket office after arriving in Japan.

Question

If I purchase an exchange order for a rail pass or other ticket overseas, where can I exchange it?

Answer

It depends on the type of rail pass you purchase. For more details, see the JR-WEST website.
