What is "ICOCA"?
ICOCA is a smart card that functions as a ticket. By charging your ICOCA card, you can automatically pay the fare for your journey simply by touching the card on the ticket gate.

Where can I purchase ICOCA cards?
ICOCA cards can be purchased from JR-WEST Ticket Offices at stations in the JR-WEST ICOCA area and from ticket vending machines that accept smart cards.

What does "charging" mean?
"Charging" is the act of putting money into a smart card. Up to 20,000 yen can be added to an ICOCA card.
Can I charge (put money into) an ICOCA card using a credit card?
No. It is not possible to purchase or charge an ICOCA card using a credit card.
Is it possible to charge an ICOCA card in areas operated by other companies where ICOCA can be used?
Yes. ICOCA cards can be charged at ticket vending machines, recharge machines, and fare adjustment machines that accept smart cards.

Is it possible to charge an ICOCA card using a credit card in areas operated by other companies where ICOCA can be used?
No. It is not possible to charge an ICOCA card using a credit card.
Can I auto-charge my PiTaPa card at JR-WEST automatic ticket gates?
No. JR-WEST automatic ticket gates do not support the auto-charge function of PiTaPa or Suica.

What types of transport can I use ICOCA on?
ICOCA can be used for travel on trains and buses in the ten areas nationwide where transport system smart cards are accepted. For areas where ICOCA can be used in the Kansai region, see the JR-WEST website.
Where can I use ICOCA apart from on trains and buses?
ICOCA can be used as electronic money at all stores that accept transport system smart cards. ICOCA electronic money can be used at stores displaying the ICOCA mark.

Can I use ICOCA to travel on limited express trains on conventional lines?
Yes, as long as you purchase a separate limited express ticket and your journey is between stations within the same smart card area.
*The shortest distance to the entrance station cannot exceed 200 km. For more information, please contact a station staff.
Can I use ICOCA to travel on the Bullet Train (Shinkansen)?
No. ICOCA cannot be used for the Bullet Train. To use the Bullet Train purchase a separate basic fare ticket and limited express ticket.
Can I use ICOCA to travel from Tokyo to Osaka on conventional lines?
No. Unfortunately this is not possible.
I want to know how much money is left on my ICOCA. How can I check my remaining balance?
To check your balance, insert your ICOCA into a ticket vending machine, smart card recharge machine, or fare adjustment machine with the ICOCA mark (). To check your balance in other areas where ICOCA is accepted, insert your card into a ticket vending machine, smart card recharge machine, fare adjustment machine, or other machine that accepts IC cards.

Can I view my ICOCA usage history after returning to my home country?
It is not possible to view your usage history after leaving Japan.
I think there's something wrong with my ICOCA's magnet. What should I do if I have an ICOCA & HARUKA?
Complete procedures to have your card re-issued at a station in the JR-WEST ICOCA area. You can receive a new card within 14 days from the day after you have completed the procedures. You will be re-issued an ICOCA card with the regular design.
