How do I check whether a station has coin lockers/a parking lot?
All Bullet Train (Shinkansen) stations and major stations on conventional lines have coin lockers and parking facilities. For more details, ask a station staff.

What should I do if all the coin lockers are full?
Kyoto, Shin-Osaka, Osaka, Okayama, Kanazawa, and Hiroshima stations have temporary luggage storage facilities.

Are there toilets in the stations?
Yes. The majority of stations have toilets.

Is toilet paper provided in station toilets?
Toilet paper is provided in every toilet in the station concourse at every manned station.

Where are the pay phones? Do I need a phone card to use them?
On the station platform and other locations. Pay phones can be used with cash (10/100 yen coins) if you do not have a phone card.
Where are the pay phones that can be used to make international calls?
Pay phones can be found on station platforms. If a phone can be used to make international calls this will be indicated on the display. See the NTT website for instructions on how to use pay phones.
Where can I smoke in the station/on board?
Excluding certain services, all Bullet Trains (Shinkansen) and trains on conventional lines are completely smoke-free. (Bullet Trains without smoking cars have smoking compartments in deck areas between cars.) All stations in Kyoto–Osaka–Kobe area are completely smoke-free. Certain stations have smoking areas on platforms. Five Bullet Train (Shinkansen) stations, Shin-Kobe, Okayama, Hiroshima, Kokura and Himeji, have smoking areas on their respective platforms.

Are there convenience stores in stations?
Some JR-WEST stations include 7-Eleven Heart-in or other convenience stores.

Are there any drug stores in stations?
Yes. Some stations have drug stores.
Can I buy souvenirs in stations?
Yes. Souvenirs can be purchased at station kiosks or convenience stores such as 7-Eleven Heart-in, which are available in some stations.
Can I exchange foreign currency in stations?
Foreign currency cannot be exchanged in most stations. Please use a nearby bank.
However, it is possible to exchange foreign currency at the Nippon Travel Agency branches in Kyoto, Osaka, and Sannomiya stations.
Are there bus stops at stations?
Yes, but it depends on the station. For more details, ask a station staff.
Can I look up bus timetables in stations?
It is possible to look up timetables for highway buses. For other buses, ask at an information counter or similar.
Can I look up flight schedules at stations?
No. Please consult an airline website or inquire directly at an airline or travel agent.
